LAPS:

General Notes

  • A camera crew were onsite at LAPS today to film some interviews with volunteers and staff for a “secret video” (presumably for the gala). Foster Mom Jules, who was there with kitten Purdy, got to be in the hot seat on cam. (See video in the Purdy section below.)

Nova’s Weather Kittens

  • Sunny ❤️
    • Kayla let everyone know on cam today that Sunny had failed to thrive and was humanely euthanized last night by Dr. Ferguson at Mountain View. They can’t pinpoint exactly what has been wrong with Nova’s kittens. (They’re still waiting on the results of Rain’s necropsy.) Could be any number of issues in any combination: hypoglycemia, dehydration, starvation, anemia, parasites, and so on. (Given that the other ginger kitten hasn’t been seen with the others in some time, I suspect he/she has died as well, possibly before Rain was trapped. But that’s pure speculation on my part.) This is the unfortunate reality of life for a feral cat/kitten. Most kittens do not survive to adulthood; these kittens have been lucky to at least have been warm, fed, and surrounded by love in their last hours. Hopefully the TNR team will be able to trap Nova before she has the kittens she is suspected to be pregnant with.
  • Haze
    • Haze is not eating on his own at all. Kayla has been struggling to syringe feed him but even that has been difficult as he’s just got no interest in anything except cuddling with Jasper. She picked up some meds this afternoon so he’s been getting subQ fluids, Fortiflora, syringed food, and an appetite stimulant.

    • Kayla Periscoped later this evening from home — Haze has come home with her for her “weekend” (Sunday/Monday). She’s says he’s looking a little perkier and is a bit feistier. He also played very briefly with a toy. She’s still having to syringe feed him and give him the other supplementation/meds so it’s still touch and go. She’ll keep us all updated.

Purdy

  • Purdy has been fostered by Foster Mom Jules since her original foster mom Linda B went on vacation a few weeks ago.
  • She was spayed on Tuesday at Yorkson Veterinary Clinic. She had wear a cone of shame for 24 hours after the surgery because she wouldn’t leave the stitches alone.
  • She unfortunately has feline lice. It is believed that she’s had lice since before she came in to LAPS. Jules has been trying to treat it, but is losing the battle trying to pick nits out of Purdy’s very ample and luxuriant fur. So brave little Purdy was shaved today. She was also given a dose of Revolution and in two weeks she’ll be given a dose of Profender.

CallaLily Litter

  • The kittens were at LAPS today to get their vaccinations. They’ll be eight weeks old on Tuesday and should be available for adoption in the next two weeks.
  • Alicia had her daily Periscope session with Calla Lily and the kittens.
