LAPS:
Sambuca
- Sambuca was brought in to LAPS by a woman who had been feeding him in her neighbourhood. He’d been coming around for about a year but lately he wouldn’t leave her porch and was meowing to come inside. He’s a big (14 lbs 8 oz) intact mostly black tomcat with a white bib, white paws, and big manly jowls. They figure he’s about 3 years old. His ears were beat up and scabby (war wounds) and really dirty. They found lots of flea dirt and live fleas. He has a stubby tail. His upper left canine is broken and the gums around it are red and swollen. He has a slight heart murmur. His SNAP test (for FIV/FeLV) was positive but they didn’t say for what — they just said there were two dots, one of which must have been the positive control because they weren’t sure which disease the other dot represented. (In the SNAP test, the results appear as — potentially — four dots in a diamond. The top dot is the positive control and shows that the test is working. The two potential dots on the middle line are indicators of the presence of FIV and/or FeLV antibodies — left one FIV, right one FeLV. The bottom potential dot is a negative control. used to rule out false positives and bad tests.) [Added later: He is FIV+.)

Twiggy
- Twiggy is a young kitten (about 10 weeks old, I believe they said) who was brought in to LAPS today. She is/was infested with fleas and ear mites and is anemic and dehydrated. Her SNAP test (for FIV/FeLV) was negative.

Their intakes were done in the same room at around the same time so the following two videos cover both cat and kitten. (Sambuca was brought in first and is in most of the first video. Twiggy is in most of the second video. The Livestream feed reset part way through, hence the two videos. Part 2 of the intake is also available on LAPS’ Livestream.) Dr. Wakeling was there again with her Douglas College students so the videos are very educational.

- Douglas was at Mountain View for a recheck today.
Frodo
- Frodo’s surgery is scheduled for tomorrow.
- He’s still hiding.
Great Catsby Litter
- The kittens have been moved from the food prep room into the small communal room where Rose’s kitten used to hang out, because the kittens had started jumping over the barrier.
- Zelda is having a kitten-less day to herself in the food prep room. She will likely spend most of her time there — now that the kittens are so big (they’re 6 weeks old), she seems a little overwhelmed by their nursing swarming.
- Foster Mom Jules had stopped by LAPS to drop something off and decided to have a little visit with the Great Catsby kittens (along with Kayla and Jasper) while she was there.

CallaLily Litter
- Alicia had her daily Periscope session with Calla Lily and the kittens. It included the introduction of a toy called the Weazel Ball. It is hilarious to watch, though Calla and the kittens didn’t know quite what to make of it.

Mr. T and Pinecone
The boys are getting more and more confident each day, though they are still unnerved (sometimes to the point of hissing) by the sounds from the bathroom when visitors are preparing to come in. Today as well — for the first time, I think — the boys tried to follow them out of the room and into the bathroom at the end of the visits. Pinecone is still more of a hunter than a lap cat — it seems he’d rather play and be played with, where Mr. T seems happiest when cuddled in someone’s lap. Mr. T sleeps most often in the covered nest, whereas Pinecone seems to sleep mostly out in the open.
