TinyKittens HQ

The cams and Livestream feeds

Since the fix-a-thon, Shelly has been switching cams and feeds around fairly randomly so it’s complicated to keep track of which room was on which stream at which time. There are still two streams (VIP stream and regular regular fix-a-thon stream) and any of the three rooms (Lion Colony room aka the white room upstairs, Happy Forest Colony room aka the purple room upstairs, and the Nano Colony room aka the small feral recovery room downstairs) may be on either of the cams at any given point.

Lion Colony Room

The white room upstairs at TinyKittens HQ is currently the home of Wee Pumpkin (aka Wumpkin aka Wee Flumpkin) and Middle Pumpkin (aka Mumpkin) from the Lion Colony.

  • Gwen visited early in the morning, bringing more food and giving Wee his eye and ear meds.
  • Suzanne had her first snuggler visit with the little lions today. Middle is still not very bold, but Wee enjoyed lots of laps cuddles and playtime with her.
  • Shelly visited in the evening.
    • She brought snacks and decided to give Wee Flumpkim some Profender, since they have been there for a week and he still has a bloated belly.(That will kill tapeworms and other parasites.)
    • She also gave him his antibiotics.
    • She took some pictures of his bad eye, trying to get a good shot of his iris. His eye is just like Calvin’s and like Skye’s, though he’s not related to either as their colonies are quite far apart.
    • She also listened to his chest and belly with her stethoscope. His respirations have been a bit high; she might take him in tomorrow to have his heart listened to.
    • She did a little ear cleaning; his ears look much better than they did before (not as hot, not as hard, not quite as itchy), but there’s still a long way to go. So much purring.
    • Middle Pumpkin puts up with being pet by humans under duress, but he doesn’t love it.

Happy Forest Colony Room

The purple room upstairs at TinyKittens HQ is currently the home of Calvin, Macey, QuinnBunny, and Rusty.

  • Gwen visited in the early morning.
  • Kathryn Jane visited in the late morning, mostly to continue with her socialization of Calvin but also to continue her early efforts with Macey, QuinnBunny, and Rusty.
  • Macey is going in tomorrow for her spay. She will get one more ultrasound before, just to make sure. It’s definitely time…she’s very much in heat and Calvin, even though he has been neutered, did his best to try to take care of business. [Poor Macey. No wonder she had so many mating bite wounds on her when she came in.] Shelly popped in at midnight and turned on the Cat’s Meow toy as a distraction, telling them to “behave themselves” as she left. 😉

Nano’s Colony Room

The small feral recovery room downstairs at TinyKittens HQ is currently home to Nala, her daughter Mali, and old man Racer from Nano’s Colony.

This room wasn’t on cam most of the day so I don’t know who visited the cats here today. (Updates came from Shelly’s on-cam time with Wee Pumpkin in the evening.)

  • Mali has a URI. Shelly considered putting her and Wee Pumpkin in together, but they both have URIs and are from different colonies so putting them together could result in a super virus. But once they are both cleared of their URIs, then maybe.
  • Nala and Racer are.recovering from their dental surgeries, but will likely eventually go home.

Mason

Mason is at Shelly’s. He has the run of the house, though Shelly says he mostly hides under the couch.

LAPS:

The cams and Livestream feeds

LAPS is currently having some technical issues with their computer and their Internet/WiFi and so they’re generally unable to broadcast a full-time live stream at this time. Their current intermittent streams are:

  • A Day in the Life At LAPS: This is the main general event for LAPS. It’s the stream where intakes are usually streamed along with other shelter residents/rooms.

National Cupcake Day Events

  • National Cupcake Day is Monday, February 27, 2017. LAPS will have cupcakes, kickers, and catnip pillows available for purchase, with proceeds going to LAPS.
  • Foster Mom Jules will be selling cupcakes (and pupcakes) at Waldo & Tubbs in Fort Langley on Saturday, with proceeds going to LAPS.

February Feral Fix-a-thon

  • As usual, all of the Lion Colony cats were out and playful early in the morning.
  • Gwen visited all of the cats early in the morning, starting shortly after 7 AM. She gave Wee (and presumably everyone else who needed them) his meds.
  • Kathryn Jane visited with Calvin, Macey, QuinnBunny, and Rusty in the late morning. She posted several videos and a ton of photos from her visit.

  • Shelly came in about 1/2 hour later (while KJ was still there) and gave KJ more information about the personalities of the new-to-KJ cats in the room. Shelly cleaned Macey’s ears while she was there. (Macey is showing some signs of being in heat.) Rusty apparently stayed in Shelly’s lap without much fuss last night during her visit.
  • Shelly then packed up Floofermelon, Terra, and Rocky to return back to the Lion Colony site. (She doesn’t want to leave Wee Pumpkin alone so Middle Pumpkin “drew the short straw”.) She checked their surgery sites — Floofermelon’s belly is a bit bruised so Shelly sent some pictures off to Dr. Ferguson, who cleared Floofer for her return to the colony. Shelly thinks Rocky shows some potential — even though he was squished into the small wedge of denial between the wall and the lego bricks, he didn’t make much of a fuss at all when she picked him up and put him in her lap. [Perhaps he’ll be a return visitor at a future date.] She was also planning to take as many of the Nano Colony girls back as she could get. (The open catio might have proved to be a problem. The Nano Colony room wasn’t on-cam so I don’t know who she managed to catch.)
  • Nicole visited with all of the cats in all three rooms in the late afternoon.(She’ll be back again to visit on Saturday.)
  • Shelly visited with the Happy Forest cats for awhile in the evening. She hand-fed Macey and QuinnBunny. (She tried to entice Rusty with some food, but he really wasn’t having it.) She sat on the floor with Calvin for awhile, trying to get him to eat and typing away madly on her laptop. (They were off-cam.) Having Calvin in there complicates things — can’t leave food out.
  • Shelly also popped in briefly late at night (technically just after midnight so early morning February 23). It sounded like she came out of the Happy Forest Colony room first, but I didn’t see that visit (if there was one) on cam. She gave Wee his eye and ear meds and put out more food. She also set up an aerial view camera.

(She later also moved the floor cam to give a better view of the two gingers in the blue cube. That’s Wee aka Wumpkin in the front and Middle aka Mumpkin in the back.)

Note: After today, I’ll be putting updates about the remaining cats into the TinyKittens HQ section of these recap pages.

February Feral Fix-a-thon

  • Shortly before 6 AM, the black nest bin that was under the window in the Nano Colony room downstairs fell down onto the floor, spilling what appeared to be poor Racer onto the floor.(Gwen set the bin up on the floor when she came in about an hour or so later.)
  • Gwen visited all of the cats in the morning, to tidy up and put out fresh food and water.
  • Shelly posted an update video on the fix-a-thon.
  • There were a lot of resets on the Livestream feeds today so not much was caught on cam. After one of the resets/cam switches, Calvin was in with the other Happy Forest cats in the purple room.

Recap: Monday, February 20, 2017

February Feral Fix-a-thon

  • Gwen checked in on everyone in the morning and had a bit of cuddle time with Wee while giving him his meds.
  • Kimsies came by later in the morning and refilled water dishes. She also took Elwood and Cato back to the Happy Forest. (The Nano Colony cats aren’t on cam so I don’t know if any of them have gone back yet.)
  • Shelly came by with someone else briefly at around noon. She then came back by herself to give an update in the Lion Colony room and to check up on the three cats left in the other upstairs room.

    • Five of the boys from the Nano Colony (Emory, Floyd , Marcel, Marlowe, and Mikey) and two of the boys from the Happy Forest (Cato and Elwood) are on their way back to their colonies. Kimsies posted some pictures and videos from their releases.
    • All of the Lion Colony cats are staying for now (the girls at least until they’ve recovered from their spays). Wee is definitely staying and the other boys seem quite playful, if a bit human-shy, so I’d expect additional socialization attempts with them.
    • Quinn had 3 teeth extracted. Rusty is still here because he had extensive dental surgery yesterday, with 12 teeth removed. He’ll be here for a couple of days at least. Macey hasn’t been spayed yet so she’s still here.
    • Shelly said the “nine Nano Colony girls” are still downstairs, but I only count eight (Addison, Aviva, Chomper, Esmerelda, Mali, Marcella, Merrit, and Nala) in the fix-a-thon list. (Old fella Racer had dental surgery yesterday, which would require additional recovery time, so perhaps he’s mistakenly being lumped in with the girls.) She also mentioned that TK will have six Surrey girls downstairs as well, but there were only three (Ewos – A1, Narayan – K1, and Willow – A1) on the fix-a-thon list. (I know that the Surrey Community Cat Coalition has recently trapped and spayed/neutered a number of stray and feral cats so perhaps Shelly offered to keep additional recently spayed females at TK while they recovered.)
  • When she came back from releasing the boys, Kimsies came in to visit with Macey.
  • Shelly visited with the Lion Colony cats in the late evening and gave a short update on everything else while she was there.
    • Highlights of the visit: She had some good cuddle (and purr) time with Wee Pumpkin while she gave him his eye and ear meds — he has a bloated worm belly and his ears are still red and irritated. She took some pictures of Middle Pumpkin and Floofermelon being cute behind the tarp. She then decided to take the tarp away completely — it was a very noisy process that sent all of the cats ricocheting around the room and up to the window and back around the room again for several minutes. (Unfortunately, it seems no one managed to record it.) She brought in more toys — a tunnel, a tent cube, and other things (all of which proved quite popular).
    • Updates: There are 19 cats currently at TKHQ: 5 in Lion Colony room, 3 in Happy Forest room, 9 in the Nano room, and 2 Surrey cats. (Surrey took back eight of their cats, leaving just one male and one female at TKHQ. They can’t be returned to where they were trapped and Surrey Community Cat Coalition is trying to find a place for them.) She mentioned that they are keeping Mali, maybe Nala (at least for awhile, because of her expansive dental work). The rest of the Nano Colony girls should all be ready to go back to their colony tomorrow.
  • Shelly posted some pictures on TinyTapeworms, of Wee Pumpkin’s ear mites:

The cams and Livestream feeds

Recently, Shelly has been switching cams and feeds around fairly randomly so I am just going to note what cams were viewable when. Generally there is a VIP stream and a public stream.

  • The VIP stream was on Macey, Quinn, and Rusty most of the day. At around 20:30, Shelly switch the feed over to the small feral recovery room downstairs.
  • The regular fix-a-thon stream showed the Lion Colony cats.
  • Nothing was streaming live on YouTube.

Calvin is temporarily at Shelly’s.

February Feral Fix-a-thon

Links for current fix-a-thon

Links for October 2016 fix-a-thon

Day #3 General Notes:

  • Lorie and Kathryn Jane packed up cats to take to Mountain View. They can only take a certain number of cats over at a time (space considerations) so they (and possibly others) will be ferrying cats back and forth throughout the day.
  • Wee Pumpkin was given the run of the white room after his colony mates left for their surgeries. There was much meowing at first. He will have a snuggler visitor later.
  • Nicole (Willow Sarin’s mom) posted a picture of Wee playing. Volunteers (five of them, including Nicole, Cathy, and Kathryn Jane) had been cleaning up TKHQ for the returning surgical patients and, of course, had some snuggle time with Wee Pumpkin.
  • Surrey Community Cat Coalition posted pictures of nine of their trapped cats that were spayed/neutered during the fix-a-thon.

One of Kimsies’ pictures below seems to be of the 10th “Surrey” cat, who it seems is being looked after by VOKRA. (She also posted a picture of all the matted hair that came off the very fluffy black cat.)
  • Kimsies posted a lot of pictures and videos from the weekend — trapping, snuggling, the fix-a-thon itself.
  • She also posted pictures of the custom-labelled (by Duolynx) Kalala wine commemorating the event.

Day #3 Surgeries at Mountain View:

You can watch the whole event (all 8+ hours of it) on Shelly’s Livestream event for the fix-a-thon.

  • Action at Mountain View started at around 09:00.
  • The Team: 6 veterinarians, 3 RVTs (with 2 two more to come), a vet student coming after she studies…plus Shelly (from the start), Kimsies (later on), and everyone ferrying cats to/from the clinic.
  • Mountain View posted several pictures on Facebook throughout the event.

  • Notable situations:
    • Quinn isn’t going back to the Happy Forest. Her teeth are bad; they’re going to extract several today, but she’ll need regular dental visits (every six months) and will likely need all her teeth extracted at some point. She’s quite young (18 months to 2 years old). They’ll be looking for a special home for her with humans who are committed to her ongoing dental care.
    • Mali won’t be going to back to Nano’s farm, according to Shelly. She is very sweet (Dr. Sheila carried her over to the camera while cuddling her after her spay) but is in need of the TinyKittens Pudge Plan to fatten her up a bit.
    • Nala (Mali’s mama) had a lengthy spay surgery as she had a hernia that needed repair at the same time. (Per Dr. F’s exam yesterday, Terra also had a small hernia that would have been repaired during her spay.)
    • Racer, an elderly (in feral terms) black cat from Nano’s colony, had extensive dental work done. (Per Shelly’s notes on his database entry, he has a “broken upper left canine, missing incisors”.)
    • Rusty also had extensive dental work done — he had 12 teeth removed.
  • Summaries:

End of Day Notes

  • Once Shelly got back to TKHQ, she gave Wee Pumpkin his meds and eye ointment. She also opened up all of the cage doors so that the other Lion Colony cats could get out and about if they wanted — Wee proceeded to go in and sample all of their foods. Everyone came out to check things out at some point. Terra would really like to get out (and probably back to her friend at the farm). Wee played a lot. Middle and Rocky joined in later on.
  • The cage doors in the Happy Forest room were also all opened. Rusty and Elwood were out and about in the Happy Forest room. One of them knocked over Macey’s cam and spotlight so we were left with room cam. Quinn poked her head out but then went back in her crate.

The cams and Livestream feeds

Recently, Shelly has been switching cams and feeds around fairly randomly so I am just going to note what cams were viewable when. Generally there is a VIP stream and a public stream.

  • The VIP stream was on Macey and Quinn (and then just on Macey after Quinn headed out to Mountain View). At 14:17, it switched to show Wee Pumpkin in his new digs (with his fellow Lion Colony friends in their crates, recovering).
  • The regular (“fix-a-thon”) stream showed the white room (where the Lion Colony cats, including Wee Pumpkin, were) until 08:59, when it switched to Mountain View (without sound at first). At 17:19, Shelly switched the feed over to Macey and the other Happy Forest cats back at TKHQ.
  • Nothing was streaming live on YouTube.

Calvin

Calvin is temporarily at Shelly’s house.

Mason

Mason is at Shelly’s. He has the run of the house, though Shelly says he mostly hides under the couch.

Feral Colonies

Happy Forest

  • Kim T was on feeding station duty today and she posted several videos: Eaton, Savina welcoming committee, and the new tarps the firemen were working on yesterday.
(Facebook videos aren’t playing nice with WordPress at the moment so I can’t embed a reasonable version of them here. Please click the linked text above to view the video posts in a new window.)

Mavis

  • LAPS posted an update on Mavis, the older cat who needed dental surgery. She’s had the dental work and is now ready for adoption.

Tour of LAPS

  • Foster Mom Jules was live on Facebook, taking everyone on a little tour of LAPS to check in on some of the cats/kittens in residence there: Shaylee (accepting applications now), Jingle (she has ringworm but will be available soon), big communal (Mavis is now available for adoption; Lively is at the Petsmart adoption event today), small communal (Daryl, Negan, McCoy, and Molson).
