Recap: Saturday, February 27, 2016

General Notes and Awesomeness:

  • Alicia mentioned when she picked up the bottle feeders today that she’d seen Meghan and Joel (Anders‘ people) at Jules’ cupcake sale today. Meghan’s pregnancy had been officially announced at the LAPS Gala in November and per Alicia she had their baby, Brinley, yesterday. (She’d apparently just left the hospital an hour before and Joel had driven her a block to get cupcakes. LOL) Congratulations to them both for the awesome news. ♥
  • There have been lots of cupcake-related events in advance of the official National Cupcake Day on February 29.

  • Rio is hanging out at Hotel Jules with Foster Mom Jules. No updates today but she’ll be at LAPS tomorrow from noon to 15:00.

Season, Shiver, Puddles, and Blossom

  • Season and Shiver are the daughters of Kestrel, who is currently a resident at TinyKittens HQ. They come from the other side of the property where the feral colony is, from a neighbour’s of the Property Owner. They are tame but aren’t pets. Puddles and Blossom are also from that same area and situation. All four are doing well.
  • Shelly mentioned today during her visit with Eliann and Neelix that the neighbour who took in Kestrel and the others to keep them safe is moving and can’t take the cats with them so the Property Owner brought them to Shelly. So they were essentially surrendered to TinyKittens. These four were sent to LAPS because LAPS doesn’t have many cats right now and they’ll hopefully get adopted faster there.

  • Mattie did great overnight. She’s moving much more easily.
  • Today, Kayla and Amy gave her a bath. They haven’t gotten any of the dematting shampoo yet so they just used a moisturizing shampoo. They also used some chamomile conditioner that helped to loosen some of the matting and Amy was able to cut away one of the mats on Mattie’s rear left leg.
  • You can watch the video of the bath on the Day in the Life at LAPS Livestream event at http://livestream.com/accounts/14083503/LAPSlife/videos/113695881.
  • They’ve received $1080 in donations towards her care as of this morning.

Cupcake Kittens

  • Four 2- to 3-day-old kittens who were brought in by a couple who live in an area with a lot of strays and ferals.
  • They are all girls:
    • black Vanilla (or Vanilla Bean as Alicia has started calling her) is 142 grams
    • classic tabby Swirl is 144 grams
    • lighter face mackerel tabby Creampuff (142g)
    • darker face mackerel tabby Red Velvet (142g)
  • Jen from Paws and Claws will be fostering them starting Monday morning; Alicia will look after them until then.
  • You can watch the video of their intake (and Alicia picking them up later) on the Day in the Life at LAPS Livestream event at http://livestream.com/accounts/14083503/LAPSlife/videos/113715484.
  • Alicia had a Periscope with them after she brought them home; she’ll try to have another one tomorrow during another of their feedings. (She’ll be feeding them every two hours or so until Monday morning.)

  • He’s doing great. Kayla is still giving him subQ fluids (and thus functioning as his kidneys) but now he’s getting the typical temporary “camel hump” instead of the fluids being immediately absorbed into his body. She’s also giving him meds and adrenal/kidney food. He’s being a typical, rambunctious kitten, getting into things he isn’t supposed to, scratching the furniture, jumping onto counters, and stealing food. 😉
  • Kayla is going to try to Periscope with him one of these days.
  • She showed a picture on her phone of Toffee snuggling with her cat Blitzen.

TinyKittens HQ:

  • No updates yet today.

The cams and Livestream feeds

We currently have three live streaming webcams at TKHQ:

  • The Jingle Bell’s Romper Room of Delight stream: Despite the name, this is the stream that is on Noelle and Elf in their dormitory downstairs.
  • The Neelix + Savina: Kittenwatch, Feral-style! stream: This is the stream showing the room upstairs where Savina, Neelix, and (temporarily) Eliann are residing.
  • The TinyKittens VIP cam stream: When there are only two (or fewer) rooms of cats/kittens, this stream is usually showing an alternate view of one of the rooms. Wherever it’s pointing at any given moment, this special stream/feed is only accessible for a monthly or annual fee. (Consider it a way to donate to TinyKittens monthly, with the VIP cam feed as a perk.)

Inactive/intermittent streams:

  • The Feral Recovery Room stream: This, as the name would suggest, is the stream that used to be on the upstairs room with its various residents until they went to their forever homes (or back to the Happy Forest); after Enara left on February 20, the feed was set to show a 23-minute loop of feral colony videos. The feral loop DVR feed went offline just after 10:00 on February 23, just before the World Spay Day feed went live.
  • The Cassidy the Two-Legged #MiracleKitten stream: This occasionally shows videos of Cassidy over at Shelly’s house.

NoElf Room

This is the room downstairs where Noelle and Elf are currently residing.

  • The feed/cam in this room has been down pretty much all day. (The computer it’s connected to is notoriously wonky.)
  • The Visits:
    • Amanda visited. She posted videos and some pictures of the girls from her visit:
    • Alicia mentioned that she visited in the afternoon.

Feral Recovery Wing

Current Residents

ferals at TKHQ as of 2016-02-25 - Savina, Neelix, and Eliann

  • Savina is currently relaxing (hopefully) in the Decompression Suite of the feral recovery wing. She’s enjoying fine catio dining, luxurious glamping in her own feral den, quiet, and mood lighting…all designed for a stress-free stay at TinyKittens HQ. Here’s hoping she read the brochure. 😉
  • Neelix is currently in residence in the Cabinet Bunker of Solitude, the favourite nesting choice for most mothers-to-be at TinyKittens HQ. (In case you’re unfamiliar, the Cabinet of Solitude or CoS is the white cabinet under the window in the room. The Bunker of Solitude or BoS is, as the name would suggest, under the CoS — the little crawlspace between the main part of the cabinet and the floor. Sloane used the CoS for her nest once she could be persuaded away from the box of dirt; but Sisko favoured the bunker.)
  • Neelix’s roommate in the recovery ward is Eliann, who is hanging out for a couple of days to receive her pain meds and make sure she’s recovering well from her spay surgery before she’ll be heading back to the Happy Forest. In a throwback to Sisko and Mila, Eliann has joined Neelix in the Bunker of Solitude (BoS).

Today’s adventures

  • Shelly visited Eliann and Neelix in the morning, after she’d stopped in to check on Savina. She brought Kestrel in with her to demonstrate good cat/human interactions; Kestrel was more interested in trying to get to the catio. Shelly fixed the VIP cam and brought in more food. She was able to purrito Eliann to give her her meds and to check her incision fairly easily, and she got some pets in while Eliann’s face was uncovered. Neelix had to be retrieved in a blanket ball from the Cabinet of Solitude. She brought out her trusty headlamp and did more ear cleaning. The energy is better in the room without Savina there. Shelly’s hoping that by socializing with her more before the babies arrive, it’ll be easier to handle the babies. Hormones are a wild card, though.
  • Willow Sarin’s family is coming over at noon to help with some handyman stuff in the basement to get that room ready for future residents. (Shelly didn’t say what those renovations are, but it’ll be interesting to see when they’re finally unveiled.)
