LAPS:

Feral Colony Cats

ferals currently being socialized at/through LAPS as of 2016-01-29 - Tellar, Eaton, and Rio
  • Note: Tellar is temporarily residing with Foster Mom Jules so that he can get used to being in a home environment. Eaton and Rio are still together at the shelter.
  • Kim T. posted a video and some pictures of Eaton and Rio at LAPS while she was visiting with them.

Star Wars Litter

LAPS staff and volunteers have been very good about posting the videos of the various visits with Queen Amidala and the kittens to their Livestream page, so if you miss any visit, you can go to http://livestream.com/accounts/14083503/starwars to watch them. (Note: It’s not always easy to tell what day a video is from — Livestream uses relative time, i.e. “xx days ago”, for posts and Zulu Time, which is currently eight hours ahead of PST, for comments — but they are in reverse chronological order on the page.)

Spice

  • Spice, who was brought in from the feral colony with a bad case of ringworm on December 9 with Beetlejuice, is now cleared and ready for adoption.

TinyKittens HQ:

Cassidy

  • No specific updates today, but Shelly did upload a cute video showing what Cassidy does when it’s time to go to bed.

General Notes

  • The TinyKittens VIP cam gets swapped around periodically.  The feed (wherever it’s pointing at any given moment) can be accessed for a monthly or annual fee. (Consider it a way to donate to TinyKittens monthly, with the VIP cam feed as a perk.)
  • Kimsies was on feeding station duty at the feral colony today.

Feral Recovery Ward

Current residents:

ferals currently recuperating at TKHQ 2016-01-27 - Satine, Enara, and Tiger
  • Tiger continues to sound pathetic with his snarfling and sneezing. Unfortunately, there is little they can do for him — he just has to power through it. His vaccinations might have triggered an immune response that made his existing URI symptoms worse.
  • Satine is getting more snarfly from her URI. It can apparently take about 7 to 10 days for the symptoms to appear, and stress is often a trigger. [The 7 to 10 day time frame just happens to coincide with Shiloh going back to the colony and with the appearance of Pansy, Raven, and Enara in the feral room, all very stressful incidents for Satine judging by her actions before and after.]
  • There was some discussion yesterday about maybe sending Satine back to the colony, where she would feel safer and maybe allow the TNR team to work with her socialization more. But they haven’t quite given up on her yet. They want to keep her at least until her URI clears up, so they have a week or more to see how things go. [I have noticed over the last couple of days that, while Satine still isn’t much of a fan of coming down to see the humans, she actually seems to move towards the petting when she’s on her “safe place” shelf bed more than she used to. With Lawana yesterday and Amanda today, for example, she actually moved towards the edge of the shelf bed, closer to the petting human hands, instead of squishing herself up against the wall. And she looked down at visitors sitting on the floor more — curious instead of hiding.]
  • Shelly announced on Facebook this evening that Enara is considered a graduate and is now available for adoption.
  • The Visits:
    • Amanda visited while the romper room kittens were at the vet. Lots of cuddles and snuggles. At one point, she had Tiger and Enara both eyeing her lap for cuddles at the same time. Tiger and Satine are still snarfly. I didn’t get to watch the full visit, but she apparently was concerned by Tiger snarfling up some blood. [Stands to reason that they experience some of what we do when we’re congested.]
    • Kimsies visited.
    • Lorie visited in the evening.

Formerly-Feral Mega Romper Room

  • The kittens were off to the vet to get their vaccines (including rabies for those heading to the US) and to have samples take for ringworm fungassays and individual PCRs. (Results from the fungassays could take up to two weeks.) Comet also needed to have a cyst on his neck seen to and Nick had some facial puffiness.
  • Nicholas’ adoption, which was originally planned for today, has been delayed because of the inconclusive combined PCR results.
  • The Visits:
    • Gwen popped in briefly to round up the kittens to go to the vets. Mistletoe was particularly fierce, but Gwen managed to corral everyone fairly quickly.
    • When Gwen brought them back, she also came in and cleaned and tidied up a bit. She also put out more food and water for them.
    • Kimsies stopped by in the afternoon. Lots of snuggles and cuddles for everyone. She opened up the window to the catio, but the screen is still on the window.
    • Shelly showed up just as Kimsies was preparing to leave so Kimsies hung around for awhile. Shelly had decided it was too cold to go downstairs to get a bunny suit, so she came in dressed in her fluffy pink bath robe.
      • Shelly again mentioned that Nicholas has some swelling on his face that Shelly says could be the same thing that TeeKay had. (They need to do more tests.) [Viewers seem to have noticed him start licking/cleaning that area of his face shortly after the shelf bed fell on Saturday — he landed pretty hard and what little you can see of the fall, he probably banged his face on the way down.]
      • Comet has gingivitis and needs his teeth cleaned. (Apparently gingers have a 25% more chance of getting it.) They also noticed today that he’s got some bare spots on the backs of both of his ears.
      • The window screen won’t come out, so Shelly cut a flap out of the screen to allow the cats out into the catio. Comet was all for that, once he was shown it.
      • They talked about maybe moving the three ferals from downstairs up into the white room. (After all, they are negative for ringworm.) They wonder if maybe Satine will have a bigger turnaround upstairs, much like Elf (and even Mistletoe) had once they weren’t in the dreaded ringworm dungeon. Since they want to keep her at TKHQ until her URI clears up anyway, the change of scenery can’t hurt.
      • CTV had contacted Shelly about appearing with Cassidy and some kittens for an adoption show. She had to explain that Cassidy isn’t available yet (“yet” — ha!) and that she doesn’t have any kittens right now. She tried to sell them on bringing a couple of the ferals instead, but the CTV contact declined. 😉
    • Lorie visited in the evening. She played with all of the kittens. (Jingles was so excited by the laser pointer that he leapt out of the litter box after it.)
